Flu Shot Debate

Mary Schrick, N.D.

  I don't like to say I told you so but I did. I am referring to the flu shot, and all the hype surrounding them this year. Remember early this fall I told you about the plans of our own government to create a public demand for the flu shots? They did a good job with their public service spots on TV and radio. There was a public out cry for the shots. People stood in long lines to get a shot. There were black market flu shots, etc. Then a few weeks ago came the announcement that everyone needed to take a flu shot because the government feared that if all of the shots were not sold by the pharmaceutical companies, they might not make enough shots for the next flu season. Ok, we listened to this hype, now comes the startling admission that “there is no evidence that a flu shot protects against the flu as far as mortality goes!" I for one am not at all surprised. I do however believe that the flu shot does have an effect on your mortality in the larger scheme of things. Every time you have a shot of mercury, you are damaging your immune system and putting your health at grave risk. Sooner or later it will catch up with you.

     So, what do we do? Keep your immune system up and strong. Use the Starr Walker Beta Glucans, Super Silver, Vitamin C Plus, and Immune Support. Keep cool mist humidifiers going in the months that your heat is turned on. In short stay healthy Naturally, and in my opinion, avoid the flu shots!

Inflammation?

Mary Schrick, N.D.

   If you are suffering from any type of inflammation and are dependent upon conventional or standard medicine, you are in for some problems. Vioxx the Cox-2- inhibitor pulled from the market due to its cardiovascular -related complications, isn't alone, but you soon may be. The other two best selling drugs for inflammation are now under the gun as well.  Bextra and Celebrex the other Cox-2 inhibitors will soon be a thing of the past, and not a moment too soon.

     Inflammation is dangerous, and must be delt with, but not with those risky drugs.  A far better way to treat inflammation and enjoy side benefits rather than side effects, is to use:

1.       Starr Walker Anti-Inflammatory

2.    Starr Walker EPA-DHA

3.    Starr Walker Generation 2

4.    Starr Walker Vitamin C Plus

   You can keep an eye on your progress by checking your CRP level. If you are having trouble with inflammation, whether in joints, digestive system, or just in general as with fibromyalgia, make an appointment with me at the clinic and let's get to the bottom of your inflammation.

THE SMELLS WE SMELL AND HOW THEY AFFECT US!

Cathy Hopkins, N.D.

Remember when we were little and how smells affected us?  The lunch room cafeteria, fresh clean clothes off the line, mom’s cookies after school, grandma’s hugs, Etc… These smells made us feel good inside, pure, fresh, and NON-CHEMICAL.

Boy, have times changed.   The smells we smell today have taken a huge turn for the worse and they are taking a toll on our bodies, emotionally, physically, and mentally.  READ FURTHER

Many people will remember a famous TV ad where a woman rushes to her washing machine, fabric softener in hand, only to arrive just as the wash ends.  This woman who “forgot to add the fabric softener’ was actually doing herself and her family a favor.

Although they may make your clothes feel soft and smell fresh, fabric softener and dryer sheets are some of the most toxic products around.  And chances are that the staggering 99.8 percent of Americans who use common commercial detergents, fabric softeners, bleaches, and stain removers would think twice if they knew the contained chemicals that could cause cancer and brain damage.

Read the label on the detergents, fabric softeners and bleaches.

Can’t pronounce most of them can you?

Benzyl acetate: Linked to pancreatic cancer

Benzyl Alcohol: Upper respiratory tract irritant

Ethanol: On the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Hazardous Waste list and can cause central nervous system disorders

Limonene: Known carcinogen

A-Terpineol: Can cause respiratory problems, including fatal edema, and central nervous system damage.

Ethyl Acetate: A narcotic on the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list

Camphor: Causes central nervous system disorders

Chloroform: Neurotoxin, anesthetic and carcinogenic

Linalool: A narcotic that causes central nervous system disorders

Pentane: A chemical known to be harmful if inhaled

The names like Summer Orchard and April Fresh and Soft Ocean Mist are fooling us! We’re buying into a marketing lie, at the expense of our health.

The above chemicals in fabric softeners are pungent and strong smelling – so strong that they require the use of these heavy fragrances (as much as 50 times as much fragrance) just to cover up the smells. Did you think about this, the synthetic fabrics, which are the reason fabric softeners were created in the first place, do not smell good either when heated in a dryer or heated by our bodies, all the more reason for more fragrances.

Soft clothes or chemical poisoning? You make the choice. (You do have a choice, you know!)

 Fabric softeners are made to stay in your clothing for long periods of time. The chemicals are slowly released either into the air for you to inhale or onto your skin for you to absorb. (Didn’t think about that, did ya?) Dryer sheets are particularly noxious because they are heated in the dryer and the chemicals are released through dryer vents and out into the environment.  Some of the health effects from being exposed to the chemicals in fabric softeners include:

·          Central nervous system disorders

·          Headaches

·          Nausea

·          Vomiting

·          Dizziness

·          Blood pressure reduction

·          Irritation to skin, mucus membranes and respiratory tract

·          Pancreatic cancer

Good News – Read On

 You possibly won’t feel the effects of the chemicals today or tomorrow, but they can affect you gradually over time, and children, whose systems are still developing, are particularly at risk.

There’s really no reason to expose yourself to these pesky chemicals when natural alternatives exist.  Not only are they safer for you, your family and the environment, but they’re much more economical too:

·         Add a quarter cup of baking soda to wash cycle to soften fabric

·         Add a quarter cup of white vinegar to wash, to soften fabric and eliminate cling

·         Check out your local health food store for natural fabric softeners (read labels)

More toxic products in your home?  Again, read labels.  Many household products that consumers regard as safe are also full of toxic chemicals.

Please call the Full Circle Health Clinic at 405-753-9355 to schedule an appointment for the MSAS chemical sensitivity screening.  Let’s start the new year off on the right foot, by balancing your body naturally.

Supplements?

There are people who hold very desirable positions of public trust to the field of nutrition, positions of grave responsibilities, who give out misleading information about vitamins and nutrition in general.  They tell the general public that the average grocery store contains all the nourishing foods necessary to maintain abundant health.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

Perhaps you have to run into the individual who scoffs at you for your belief in vitamin therapy.  Just remember, there are scoffers in any field of endeavor and that his scoffing is merely an attempt to cover his ignorance pertaining to the nutritional requirements of the human body.  It simply disclosed his lack of understanding in this particular instance and therefore, you have the opportunity of expressing the virtue of compassion to a fellow creature who is not as enlightened as he will someday be.

Now I would like to detour down the alley of “If’s”:

·         If our nations soil was virgin – which it is not;

·         If our ancestors had been perfect – they were not;

·         If you could teach people to eat to satisfy the body’s needs and not their perverted appetites –

       which you cannot;

·         If we could raise our own food on healthy soil and eat it fresh – which we cannot;

·         If we could all own our own cow or goat and raise our own meat and poultry – which we cannot;

·         If food were not harvested green and immature – because they are;

·         If storage did not produce deficiencies in vitamins - but it does;

·         If we lived in a stress free world – but we do not;

·         If chemical fertilizers were not used in our soil – but they are;

·         If refinement, processing enrichment and synthetic substitution were not reality – but they are;

·         If the animals we eat were fed a perfect diet – which they are not;

·         If insecticides did not penetrate every cell of our food – but they do;

·         If most of our grains were not refined into dried cereals – which they are;

·         If our white sugar possessed anything more nutritive than sand – which it does not;

·         If our modern white flour was all used for wall paper paste instead of bakery goods- which it is not;

·         If our foods were not overcooked – but they are;

·         If our deep fry fats were not to be found in almost every restaurant – but they are;

·         If man would live by the laws of nature – which he will not;

·         If man were not greedy – but he is;

          Then….you wouldn’t need vitamin Pills!
