This was our motto for 2005. Are we living up to that? I hope that we have been able to play a part in you becoming healthier, more vital and more alive. What aspect of your health have you been focusing on? Personally, I have incorporated two cleanses into my life during this past year. The first was 21 days in May. The 2nd was 40 days in September. Each cleanse that I do, I discover a new product, or several products, that encourage me on my wellness journey. I also appreciate the added spiritual insights that are usually a benefit from taking a digestive break. In addition to this, I have joined a raw foods preparation class. This class is once a month and most exquisite. Mandy Catania is an amazing raw foods chef and teacher extraordinaire. Mandy uses the first portion of the class to demonstrate the recipes along with useful kitchen tips. Then, during the latter part of the class, we are served a 3-course meal that is most elegant. Mandy has people who assist her with the class and they serve as waiters/waitresses for us during our meal. Any gourmet restaurant in the area would have to work very hard to surpass this dining delight. Eating uncooked foods in this manner is truly an adventure; it’s far more than salads and vegetable juices. I am inspired to eat more living foods and to continue pursuing digestive health. At The Doorway to Health we have brought Cathy Hopkins over for one day a week. We are grateful to Cathy that she has been willing to leave the Clinic and see clients at The Doorway. It makes it easier for many clients who live closer to the Doorway than they do to the Clinic to visit us here at the store. Also, because Cathy is a licensed N.D. (Doctor of Naturopathy), we carry some of the items that we could not otherwise stock because of the necessity of having a professional on staff. Speaking of products…this year we added a lot of new Starr Walker supplements. You know that we are particular about what we carry. Some of these items are designed to heal specific problems. If you ever have questions about what to use, don’t hesitate to ask us. If we don’t know, we will do our best to get an answer for you. Our purpose is not to just sell products to you. We want to partner with you and help you reach your health goals. Remember, too, that we cannot diagnose, treat or cure anything. We can, however, help you to help yourself. This year, at The Full Circle Health Clinic we added two pieces of equipment that helped us all to “Be More Alive in 2005!” The V.I.B.E. Machine has been so much fun! The day it arrived, Mary invited me to come over to her home and help her put it together. We were both like children who had just received presents. There was no one else in the house so we could squeal with delight at each aspect of the process…and we did! Still, when I look at the V.I.B.E. and consider its amazing design, I marvel. Then along came the Bio-Cleanse unit. We have seen so much “gunk” in the water after people simply soak their feet for 30 minutes with an alternating positive and negative ionic charge. This is a gentle way to detoxify the body. Some people question whether or not the water would ever be clean. The answer is, “Probably not unless you make lifestyle changes.” Keep in mind that most of what we call sickness is the body’s way of talking, even desperately screaming, and its need for elimination of toxins. The body tries to do this in various ways, even without our help. The skin breaks out in rashes, a cold or flu develops, diarrhea, colitis, diabetes, various inflammations and, eventually, perhaps even cancer. Most of these dis-eases are exactly that. Our ease has been disrupted because we have not been vigilant. The further off the “straight and narrow,” we wander, playing with this and that unhealthy food, emotion, addiction, etc., the harder the road back becomes for most of us. Health is not an elixir that comes in a bottle. Health is the reward for those who treat their body like the temple that it is. Remember…nothing impure crossed the threshold of that pure place. Our bodies should be like that. Nothing impure should ever get past the threshold. You hear us talk a lot about the fact that we live in a toxic world. In 2006 we will be talking even more about this. The naturopathic, wholistic, complementary approach to health cannot be effectively taken without paying careful attention to removing toxicity. There are various means of doing this, and it is not a “once and for all” process. It is an ongoing, daily practice of taking care of ourselves. We live in a complex society. We have also managed to complicate healthful, vibrant living. It’s really very basic and reminds me of the principles we learned in health classes when we were kids in school. Get plenty of rest, plenty of fresh air, drink lots of clean water and eat a moderate amount of vital foods. Our culture and lifestyles militate against those basic principles. It’s helpful to work as a team. So here we are. “There’s strength in numbers.” As we embark on the year 2006, our new motto is “Don’t Be Sick in 2006!” In that process of helping you to stay well, we consider a major part of our role to be that of education. We do this mainly through the daily radio show. The combined research of Mary and the guests represents years of knowledge and expertise. Those of you who listen on a regular basis can attest to what you have learned. I said attest. No, you do not have to sit for a test! Yet, we are tested, regularly, aren’t we? There are times, living as we do, that we “fall off the bandwagon.” It happens to me regularly. Think of the feeling you get when you have one foot on the ground and the other foot on a moving vehicle. You have to decide whether or not to crawl back on the vehicle or fall to the ground. Once you’ve fallen off, it’s a scramble to get back on; but it can be done! We get to choose. Each day we make thousands of decisions that affect us toward or away from health. We want to thank you for all of your support. Your calls to the radio show make the program lively, give it direction and personality. There’s not another show like it in the metroplex. This is a month of looking forward to the coming year, so our newsletter is abbreviated to this letter from me. Tell your friends about our e-newsletter. They can go to our website: www.starrwalker.com to sign up. It’s a good way to stay informed about various events and new products. We do care about your total well-being. Thank you for choosing us to be a partner with you. Let’s work together this year and choose, as much as is in our power, “Not to be sick in 2006!” Robyn K. Cowherd
